About the Department

The Department of Sociology was founded in 2010, with Dr. Md Rizwan serving as a passionate trailblazer who laid its foundation and guided its early stages. The Department of Sociology admits students to its four-year graduate programme. Major areas of teaching are: Sociology of Religion, Sociology of Marginalized Communities, Social Anthropology and Population Studies. We prioritize critical empiricism, theoretical involvement, and a comparative approach, which are fundamental to our disciplinary heritage. Our department also promotes interdisciplinary investigations alongside related areas of social thinking and research.

Our Vision

  • To build a center of excellence in the study of society and culture that nurtures critical thinking, social responsibility, and inclusive values, empowering students to contribute meaningfully to social transformation at local, national, and global levels.

Our Mission

  • To encourage interdisciplinary learning and prepare students for careers in academia, public service, social work, development sectors, and related fields.
  • To instill ethical values, empathy, and a sense of responsibility for building a just, inclusive, and sustainable society.
